Brief-Focused Therapy
This a one-off 2-hour session and people can come back for a follow-up session a month or two after the initial session. The 2 hours facilitates greater depth and breadth of coverage of issues.

It can greatly enhance awareness of underlying thinking, feeling and behaviour habits and how they effect quality of life. Awareness makes it more possible to find solutions, make changes and have the courage to implement them.

This tends to suit those who have time and budget constraints along with good personal resilience.

Length of Traditional Sessions:
Sessions are generally for 50 minutes and after an initial assessment meeting a plan for counselling or therapy is developed. This plan will be reviewed regularly and there is of course no obligation to attend even once sessions are agreed. Do note the cancellation policy though!

Time scale of sessions:
Again this is customised to client need and whichever timescale is agreed upon the work is reviewed regularly to maximise focus and therefore effectiveness in the work.

Therefore the work may be:
  • short-term (6-12 sessions)
  • medium-term (12-24 sessions)
  • long-term (24 + sessions)

Frequency and modality:
Sessions may be depending upon requirements:
  • weekly
  • alternate weeks
  • monthly
  • follow-up every 3 months

Many people find it useful to have some time between sessions to 'live' life and be able to put into practice their insights and learning from therapy.

For these people alternate weeks or something similar is most effective. Some prefer weekly sessions which are available with the usual parameters of bank holidays and annual leave. This is most common when people are in crisis or are dealing with very complex issues.
